Clare is originally from Derry but traveled 10,000 miles to Australia to find her wee soul mate Damo.  They got married in The Long Tower in Derry before taking us on a quick border-hop to An Grianan Hotel.  Only a fortnight after Northern Ireland had been blanketed in some unexpected springtime snow we found ourselves basking in one of the sunniest days of the year so far.

Clare’s brother James, being some kind of video editing wizard put together a fantastic marryoke-style video of their friends and family singing Lou Reed’s ‘Perfect Day.’  It impressed us so much that we’ve decided not to blog pictures of him getting his hair styled in the morning:)

I could’ve filled an entire blog with just Clare’s dress.  It was so delicate and light with beautiful lace detailing…  One of the most beautiful wedding dresses I’ve ever photographed.

Clare and Damo, we feel like we’ve made two fantastic new friends… and we’ll not forget Damo’s invite!

I’ve stayed at Rossahilly House before as part of an alternative hen weekend for my sister. We wanted a relaxing weekend away to chill out with friends and it was the perfect venue with stunning views and superb facilities.

Rossahilly House was recently included in the Top 100 wedding venues in Ireland by One Fab Day and it definitely deserves its place! Rory is so accommodating and welcoming.

In between chatting to brides & grooms to be I met lots of other suppliers including the lovely Grace from Grace & Saviour who styled parts of the house & barn beautifully!

Dress from McElhinneys Ballybofey and Suits were from Wilfs in Mullingar

Did you have a wedding band and/or dj?

Best band ever Jukebox Jurors, did band and DJ and they were fabulous

What food did you choose for your wedding menu?

Soup, vol au vent, beef, apple pie - all yummy!

What song did you have for your first dance? Did you choose it for any particular reason?

Snow Patrol ‘Chasing Cars’ and no real reason – wish I had picked a different one!

Do you have any favourite wedding blogs/websites?

I had no time to look at them! Was kinda looking at weddings.ie which is where I heard about the band but didn’t do too much else online.

Were there any unexpected wedding costs you had to factor in?

Nope stuck to the budget well!

Describe your wedding in 3 words…

Best day ever!

Give one piece of advice to someone planning their wedding.

Stick to the budget! Think twice about silly things that add up – they aren’t really needed. I didn’t buy one magazine or go to one wedding fair because I didn’t want to be sucked into anything unnecessary!

Did you have something old/new/borrowed/blue? Anything of particular significance or ‘DIY’d’?

Forgot all about it!! New was the dress, old was the engagement ring since it was my nanas, borrowed plenty including my veil, only blue thing was my eyes and some flowers I suppose – look at that I did it without even realising it!

What was your favourite wedding photo and why?

So many of them, but there was one of me and Paddy were we are not posing but we are laughing and it is so genuine and a beautiful picture I totally love it.

dress & bridesmaids dresses: McElhinneys- amazing staff, easy to find a dress in that shop. Bridesmaid dresses from a boutique in Mullingar, no fuss and easily sorted out.

grooms suits: Wilfs Mullingar- no fuss!

veil & accessories: Borrowed all of them!

venue: Bloomfield House- fabulous scenery and very little fuss because they are pros at weddings!

flowers/decor: Sheefin flowers in Mullingar did the flowers-I didn’t have a clue what I wanted but the lady in the shop was brilliant.

hair: Hair Depot Omagh- excellent!

makeup: Gemini Beauty in Collinstown- great service! They came out the night before to do everyone’s nails; me, bridesmaids, mother of bride, mother of groom and flower girls.

cake: Sister in law

music: Jukebox Jurors- have recommended them so much that 2 other people have now booked them for their wedding!

I had a chat with Gillian to find out a little bit more about her and her business…

Firstly introduce yourself and your lovely business?

I am a designer-maker based in County Down, Northern Ireland. I started up the little business Made Pretty in 2010 and we specialise in creating beautiful and stylish handmade textile accessories for you and your home. Self – indulgent loveliness you won’t find on the high street, the pieces are designed to update any outfit or space in your home adding a touch of individuality. Products range from handbags, cosmetic bags and purses to cushions, lavender Stacks and bunting.

How did your business come about?

I have always been creative from as far back as I can remember and always dreamt of having my own business and working for myself. I took Fashion & Textiles course and it was during my studies I decided to take part in a local craft fair which was a great success. I have since built on this taking part in lots more retail events and this year took a stand at the British Craft Trade Fair in Harrogate. I now supply lots of shops in both Northern Ireland and throughout England, Scotland and Wales.

What inspires you when designing products?

A love of pretty fabrics, bright colours and vintage buttons inspires me when designing and creating. I love unusual prints and textures and when a new batch of fabric arrives I can’t wait to start experimenting with all the colour combinations!

What’s your favourite item you’ve designed?

This year I have a new range of bags made from gorgeous designer laminate cotton and I love them! They are a practical everyday bag which is ideal for shopping, work and days out and come in 2 colour ways red and grey.

Any future plans you can share?

I have lots of plans for the near future, I hope to launch the online shop very soon! I am also taking part in the Country Living London and Glasgow events this Christmas which I am very excited about and I also hope to add lots more items to the range this year too. Lots to keep me busy!

Any tips or advice for anyone thinking of quitting their day job and starting a business?

Definitely follow your dreams, be prepared for lots of hard work and long hours but it is very rewarding to do something you love everyday!

March and April have been all about workshops and meetups for me. Working from home suits me perfectly but it’s also great to leave the office and chat with other photographers and creative folk in the ‘real world’.

Thanks to Twitter I found out that the super talented, Brighton based photographer Lisa Devlin was coming to Belfast to host Photography Farm Elements so of course I jumped at the chance to attend the workshop and learn from Lisa. I’ve admired Lisa’s work for a couple of years and only recently discovered she was a fellow Tyrone lady so now I love her even more :)

Adam Bronkhorst joined Lisa to teach us about creative lighting so Deci was excited to meet up with Adam and watch him work his magic. At weddings Deci is usually the one running around the dance floor with a handful of light triggers or outdoors light painting, we’ve a whole gallery dedicated to the shots we take at weddings after dark.

We all had the pleasure of photographing pretty little Emma Kenny & her lovely boyfriend Yamika, I’ve shared a few photos from the shoot below along with some behind the scenes iphone photos!
